Pustokaloy (পুস্তকালয় ): a vessel of fragile archive

What does it mean to hold memory in your hands? To carry both loss and resilience, whisper and protest, past and present?
These are not to be read in silence—they are delicate, pages stitched with memory, printed with protest, sculpted with resilience. It is an invitation to feel what words alone cannot convey.
Here, the artist’s book becomes a democratic vessel for stories of fragile archives: memories of youth and habitat, the scars of Partition, the struggles of women, the intimacies of the time, endangered languages, and fragile situation.
These books move beyond the pages, between tenderness and confrontation, embracing diverse medium—printmaking, digital printing, stitching, collage. Each book weaves a story that is not just written in words, but also in textures, materials, and gestures.
Advanced through Britto Arts Trust’s workshops in 2022, the works evolved, crossed borders, and carried many voices following the years. Now, they return home—singing together where it all first began.
By bringing these works together, Pustokaloy (পুস্তকালয় ) broadens the lineage of experimental book artwhile offering a distinct perspective shaped by displacement, resilience, and solidarity- grounded in postcolonial histories and everyday endurance.
These books whisper, protest, and endure—reminding us that memory is never private but always shared, always carried forward in our hands, and to feel the weight of what might otherwise be forgotten.
